St Ives Farmers’ Market has been named in this years’ Good Produce Guide as one of the best places in the South West to find delicious local food.
From farm shops to food markets, delis, producers and websites, the Good Produce Guide is an indispensible handbook for people passionate about good food and supporting the independent businesses who produce it.
Started almost two years ago, St Ives Farmers’ Market is run by GULP – a non-profit organisation set up to support food markets in the area and making sure local food is more readily available in St Ives.
“We are delighted that St Ives Farmers’ Market has been mentioned in the Good Produce Guide,” said Victoria Amran, development officer for West Cornwall Farmers’ Market Project – an innovative scheme working to promote 15 farmers’ markets in the area and jointly funded by by a grant from West Cornwall Local Action part of the Rural Development Programme for England, funded by the EU and Defra, and managed by the South West RDA.
“The success of this community market is down to Tim Andrewes who gives up his time each week to organise it, and all the traders who are passionate about what they do. The market is geared towards food and has a strict policy that stallholders must live within 30 miles of the market. This means local food really is local!”
Held every Thursday morning at the Backpackers in Lower Stennack, the market has an excellent range of vegetables, fish, bread, sausages and baked goods, as well as authentic Punjabi curries and Indian snacks.
Victoria continued: “Thousands of people visit farmers’ markets in West Cornwall every week. We’ve always known that we produce the freshest and most delicious food in this part of Cornwall – the Good Produce Guide has just highlighted what we already know!”
St Ives Farmers’ Market is held every Thursday from 9.30am until 2pm at the Backpackers, Lower Stennack in St Ives. For more information on this market and others in West Cornwall visit www.wcfm.org.uk or call Victoria Amran on 07787 561770
