ST BURYAN FARMERS' MARKET

The 2nd and 4th Saturday each month

9.30 am - 12.30 pm

St Buryan Village Hall, St Buryan, Penzance, TR19 6ES

Nestled inland on Cornwall’s most westerly point, the ancient village of St Buryan is famed across the county for its pagan ways and white witches – even today the village’s wise women practise their arcane rituals and benevolent witchcraft. St Buryan’s distinctive church tower is a landmark for miles around, and the fields surrounding the village are dotted with evidence of ancient remains including Boscawen-Un and The Merry Maidens. More recently St Buryan gained notoriety as the backdrop for the 1970’s thriller Straw Dogs starring Dustin Hoffman.

St Buryan Farmers’ Market has been running in the village hall since March 2010. Started by ex-farmers’ wife Margaret Hosken, the market has gone from strength to strength and is a very well supported community event raising funds for various charities in the village. Margaret proudly claims that it’s possible to find most things for the weekly local food shop under one roof – fresh fruit and vegetables, locally caught fish, meat, eggs, cheese, bread, cakes, jams and preserves, plus Indian snacks, curry sauces and much more. For gardeners there are rare and unusual plants.

"This area has kept its uniqueness - it's just like Cornwall when I was a child. St Buryan is still a real village and although it has never had a market before, I thought it was time to bring all that fantastic local food together under one roof!”
